Fonn's Part L solution streamlines processes for Bloor Homes

Bloor Homes, the largest privately owned home builder in the UK, faced its own challenge with the implementation of Part L regulatory changes. To comply, Bloor Homes needed a reliable solution that would allow them to capture and prove the quality of their installations at key build stages, without disrupting their existing processes. Fonn's construction project management software presented Bloor with an alternative to their previous unstructured approach while seamlessly integrating with their existing workflow.

Challenge

The cornerstone of Part L changes involves capturing photographs at critical build stages to demonstrate compliance with code standards. Failure to provide this evidence could result in the need for ripping out already completed works, leading to significant delays and huge costs. With a staggering 4,200 homes completed last year, Bloor Homes understood that getting this process wrong wasn’t an option. A solution that would seamlessly integrate with Bloor’s existing workflow was vital, so whatever they chose would need to be tailored.

Solution

Recognising the need for a user-friendly solution, Fonn worked closely with Bloor Homes to develop a comprehensive Scope of Works tool. This allowed for the effortless insertion of the Part L tasks into the correct build phases, ensuring that evidence was captured at the right time without disrupting the construction team's routine.

Fonn also integrated its software with Bloor Homes' scheduling software, Asta Powerproject, enabling automatic population of the scope of works tool, which broke down all the build stages associated with each job now including the Part L stages. The result was a seamless and intuitive system that required minimal adjustments to the team's existing routine, allowing for a smooth transition without sacrificing productivity.

Tailored communications

With the software solution in place, Fonn went a step further and developed a tailored communication plan specifically designed for Bloor Homes. Internal emails were carefully crafted to provide clear instructions to ensure that everyone was well-informed, minimising confusion.

Fonn meticulously mapped out the implementation process for 56 sites, allowing for personalised training and support.

Outcome

The successful deployment of Fonn's construction project management software at Bloor Homes underlines the power of technology in streamlining operations and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Fonn enabled Bloor Homes to capture and prove the quality of their installations without disrupting their routine and the result was improved efficiency, minimised risks, and enhanced customer confidence in Bloor Homes' commitment to excellence.

Results

By integrating with the scheduling software already in use, Fonn eliminated the need for additional training or a steep learning curve, giving the team the tools they need to quickly adapt to the new system. The tailored communication emails and in-person rollout further ensured a smooth transition, leaving no room for confusion.

With Fonn's software solution in place, Bloor Homes successfully captured and documented the required build stages, providing concrete evidence of compliance with Part L regulations. This not only saved Bloor Homes from potentially costly and time-consuming corrective measures, but also enhanced their reputation as a reliable and quality-focused home builder. Nick Farrington at Bloor Homes said “Between Bloor and Fonn, we have cultivated an incredible working relationship characterised by trust, passion, and a shared dedication to achieving remarkable results.”
